Message from the Host
Developing Eight Countries (D-8), established by eight countries that have assembled together for reasons concerning economical, political and social developments in the world, globalization process and their common values,
is an organization that promises significant potential in every aspect with its economical capacity, important natural resources, high population and large geographical area it contains. Considering mutually supplementary features
of these eight countries in many fields, we can state that it is possible and necessary to convert these advantages into opportunities.
Main objectives of D-8 are; creating new opportunities in commercial relations between member countries, increasing the participation in decision making processes in the international scale, providing better life standards, developing concrete common projects and supporting status of member countries in the world economy. We know that cooperation on industry is extremely important for achieving these objectives. With this awareness our ministry has led formation of D-8 Working Group on Industrial Cooperation.
As a result of the “5th Meeting of D-8 Working Group on Industrial Cooperation” and “1st Ministerial Meeting on Industry” organized in Iran last year, it was decided to organize the “2nd Ministerial Meeting” and the “6th Meeting of the Working Group” in Istanbul on 4-6 October 2011 under the auspices of our country.
Our ministry aims to contribute into activating and formalizing the cooperation on industry within the D-8 platform, with meetings combined by the name of “D-8 Industrial Summit”
One of the most important conditions for achieving this purpose is to provide attendance of private sector and the non-governmental organizations in the event together with the public authorities.
I wish success for the forthcoming organization and hope that it tends to useful outcomes for every member country.
Nihat ERGUN
Republic of Turkey
